What happened to prohibition on Trading in Local chat?
Hi,
as many of you would have probably noticed people constantly spam in local chat with their trades and i clearly remember the announcement Anet made in the past that trading in local chat could be punished
but it still happens, it annoys me
now i know people will say that you gotta switch your local chat of and stop QQ'ing but sometimes while there's a groupsconversation in the city i like to stop by and have a chat with the people there
and those sociable people that are talking are constantly interfered with the massive tradespam in their local chat
i am okay with pricechecking in local chat
the local chat is there for talking to other players and asking for help or just have a nice chat
PC is to me not considered as a trade
an argument on this:
when people use local chat for trading it will put other players to do the same which will cause even more trade in local chat, people will think that it is okay to trade in local chat
oppinions please

could be but i don't know if anet can track spamming trade in local chat and if i report them for spam well i don't know if i'm right then
i'm a bit scared to get suspended myself for reporting others that trade in local chat

The whole point of /report is to report them for breaking the rules. No trade in local is in the rules. Ergo, I doubt they will suspend you for it.

They have not suspended me for it.
yes well i know that anet can track your chatlogs but i don't know if they can see in what channel you type, i'm worried about that
spamming in trade happens all the time, i'm doing it too for items i need but i don't know if anet can check whether the trade spam happened in local chat

Yes they can. From what I understand, when you /report, it takes a screenie of whats going on. If you're nervous, hit a screenshot yourself.
I remember Gaile telling us to use /report and choose spam for those annoying gold seller PMs we were all getting, and that support would see what we were reporting.
This should be fine and I know many ppl, myself included, who /report spam for trade in all chat. Once in all chat could be a mistake, more is just rude lol.
I'm certian that they can determine which channel the message was posted in.
In many cases, it only takes one person to tell the offender to knock it off for the offender to stop. And I've seen on several occasions where when one person would speak up about it in local chat, several others would back him/her up. A little peer pressure goes a long way.
Save the /report for people who keep spamming crap after being warned. They may decide that they actually DO if a flip about "the rules" while serving a suspension.
What kills me about it is that so many of them purposely bypass the PS window while spamming in all-chat. The irony is that they say they're using all chat to reach a wider audience when in fact they'd probably be reaching MORE people (especially in LA & Kamadan) in their target audience by using the PS!
when i get pissed of by it, i put a message in local chat something like this:
"Reminder: trade chat is for trades. stop spamming local chat. thanks!"
and everyone that keeps spamming after i say that gets reported for spam. about half of the people stop spamming after the message tho. if more people do it maybe less people would spam overall

if it's like that i'll politely advise the spammer to use trade chat
if he ignores my message i will report him
I would like to hear one reasonable explanation as to what the big deal of posting items for sale in local chat are. I mean - most of the dialouge is juvenile at best so why not ask if someone wants to buy someting? I have bought stuff from guys selling in open chat and often at a better price. I think the people who complain about this need to quit making such a big deal out of nothing.

Because dear sir there are rules set by which to play, 1 rule is no spamming trade in local chat. If you can't understand that simple rule perhaps you have a cognitive problem, if that is the case I truly feel sorry for you.

Some people are not interested in buying/selling when in an outpost. That's the only explanation you should need.

That makes no sense.

You're naïve if you think the people in all chat are some sort of amazing discount sellers. I've bought stuff from them also, but most of the time they're selling trade chat also, and all of the time I've been actively seeking trading. There's never a situation where I would buy something in local chat spur of the moment unless the guy was selling it cheap enough to make a profit reselling, in which case he's ignorant of prices and it's in his favour not to be advertising at all.

party search has a good system for trading
overlooks to all districts and direct possibility to team up and whisper another person
if you spam a local chat you will just disturb a district's chat
there is also recruitment going on in local and with spam like wtb minipet! ten times in local chat it gets pretty annoying

"It's okay to ask people to buy stuff constantly in Local chat while there's a Trading Chat sitting there since most of the conversations in Local chat are juvenile anyways..." That is a faulty argument unaided by the unnecessary use of emoticons... I hate emoticons...
Local chat is reserved for anyone who wants to ask a question or discuss something. It is not to be invaded by people spamming shit they want to sell.

I have had quite nice, polite conversations in Local, only to have our speech interrupted by obnoxious Guild and Trade spam. Party Search allows for people to trade between districts and language servers, I see no reason why you should be screaming at us to buy your Mini Siege Turtle when we're talking about Mill or Skittles.
I'll keep my chit-chat in Local if you keep your selling in Trade. Ok? Shake on it?

Obviously you were oblivious to the spam generated by such advertising, and the lag that resulted for some players. Also, if you were trying to converse with people in Local, but had responses washed out by 100+ "WTS" "WTB", would you be ok with that?
Either that, or you never entered Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center (at the time), or Kamadan.
Most of the time I have local off, but when I'm to drunk to do anything else in game I go /report hunting. I find it fun to say "reported" in all chat then watch as everyone goes nuts.
